The trip has now been scuppered with Thursday's UEFA ruling that, due to incidents perpetrated by Ajax fans in the game against Valencia, the Dutch club are banned from selling match tickets to travelling fans.

With many Dutch fans having already purchased flights and reserved accommodation they were determined to seek out a football fix for their time in the English capital. That very same evening as the Chelsea-Ajax tie, East London based side Leyton Orient are playing Brighton U-21's in the Football League Trophy and the game at the 9.000 Brisbane Road stadium has been earmarked by many of the Ajax fans as their London footballing destination.

Dear Leyton Orient, Are you willing to host 2.000 Ajax fans? We are systematically and unlawfully screwed by @UEFA and @metpoliceuk. Lots of us booked transport and hotels already and will travel. You might risk a great atmosphere and memories forever. Kind regards.

The request on Twitter has already received a responding positive response from O's fans anxious to welcome the Dutch supporters.
