REAL MADRID 2-PSG 2
Real Madrid player ratings vs PSG
Real Madrid player ratings for their 2-2 draw with PSG in the Champions League at the Santiago Bernabéu on Tuesday 26 November 2019.
Thibaut Courtois: He got slightly lucky not to be sent off for a lunge on Icardi when the referee called the play back for a foul on Marcelo. Had a couple of decent saves against a lightning fast attack and looked lost for Mbappé's goal. Not a great night against an admittedly tricky opponent but leaving too many doubts still - 5.
Dani Carvajal: Kept Di Maria quite on the left and did the same when Mbappé switched sides midway through the half. He added a lot in attack too. Had three shots on target and while his delivery wasn't as good as it sometimes is, he was a constant threat and involved in the first goal - 7.
Sergio Ramos: Despite Real Madrid continuing to improve, Ramos' form seems to be regressing. He had his back to the wall in the opening 20 minutes with Mbappé attacking him one-on-one at times. Didn't have much to do with most of the traffic directed down the wings - 6.
Raphael Varane: Made a mistake for Mbappé's goal but this was also partly Courtois' fault. Good game but against PSG, this mistake changed everything - 6.
Marcelo: Had the beating of Meunier every single time he attacked. Combined well with Hazard when he was on the field and created for himself too with a lovely cross for Benzema's second. His best showing in some time in attack. He wasn't too active defensively and was more of a wing back when Madrid were on the front-foot. When PSG got themselves back into it, their attack had success on his side of the field, bringing back memories of his worst defensive flaws - 8.
Casemiro: Excellent and covered a lot of ground. Broke up play time and time again as PSG couldn't find a way through. He struggled against Neymar at times but PSG had to drop deep with the Brazilian lurking and looking to ruin their attacks - 8.
Fede Valverde: A bundle of energy in every game he played. Closed down PSG's passing options in the first half and that was key to Madrid's dominance. Heavily involved in the first goal and Madrid suffered when he was taken off. A typically excellent performance from the Uruguayan - 9.
Toni Kroos: With Valverde beside him, the sky's the limit for the German. He had a couple of dangerous shots that forced Navas to parry them away. His vision and technical skills vital to Madrid's dominance - 8.
Eden Hazard: His best performance in a Real Madrid shirt. He has been improving steadily and took another leap on Tuesday night. He is able to beat players again and linking better with his teammates. Worrying injury and Real Madrid will be hoping it's not serious as he comes into some fine form - 9.
Karim Benzema: The lead of this attack despite Hazard coming into form. Dispelling the idea that he doesn't score against big teams. He is a constant threat in the penalty area and Madrid's primary source of goals. It's becoming almost impossible to keep tabs on him as his movement is intelligent and constant - 9.
Isco: A surprise inclusion. Zidane played him to keep an eye on Marquinhos and stifle PSG's midfield. He did his job very well and it was the kind of performance he needed to get the fans and Zidane back on his side - industrious and sacrificial - 7.
SUBSTITUTES
Gareth Bale: Rattled the post with a free at the very end that would have won it for Madrid. Played on the left in place of Hazard. Not easy coming on to whistles but did okay in a game that had lost a lot of its shape when he entered the fray.
Luka Modric: Started the play for the second goal. He was dropped for the game after a good showing against Real Sociedad but his attitude was impeccable.
Rodrygo: Came on at the end for Isco but got a little excited when he drilled one wide with Benzema inside. Didn't have much of a chance to make a massive difference.
