LIGA MX

How Liga MX teams look heading into the Clausura 2020

With renewed hope, 18 first division teams are set to battle for the Mexican soccer championship, which was won last year by Monterrey.

Estados UnidosUpdate:
With renewed illusions, the 18 first division teams prepare to fight for the mexican soccer championship, which right now Monterrey possess.

The Clausura 2020 is about to start and 18 teams are looking to win the Mexican soccer championship. America, Tigres, Monterrey and Cruz Azul are the top contenders to win the first title of the year, but other teams like Chivas and Pumas could spring a surprise.

Chivas will try to meet expectations with a new project

Guadalajara had a perfect preseason, now they will have the opportunity to redeem themselves by winning this tournament and give their fans something to be proud of since they are one of the most important teams in Mexico. For the Clausura 2020, Chivas have signed Uriel Antuna, ‘Chicote’ Calderon, Jose Juan Vazquez, Jose Juan Macias and Ricardo Pelaez is their new sports director.

Total renovation at Pumas

They let go of 10 players so far and are making a whole new team for this tournament. The new project in Pumas will have a foreign element, just a few days ago they confirmed that Martin Rodriguez, who went to Morelia, and Juan Iturbe will no longer play for team based in the capital. Now they want to go back to basics, the new team will have some veteran players with experience in the mexican soccer championship and they will depend a lot on their young talented players. In the next few days the club should confirm new signings like Leonel Lopez or Johan Vasquez. Pumas will have to start strong so they can qualify for the postseason and not be left out like last year.

America is going for revenge

They suffered a big loss in the last final against Rayados, and with a fresh start, the team managed by Miguel Herrera, are one of the top contenders to win the Clausura 2020. They have already confirmed that Luis Fuentes and Alonso Escoboza will be playing for them this season. The pair should improve their backline but they still don’t know if Guido Rodriguez will be playing with them or Spanish side, Real Betis, who will make a last minute offer to sign him.

Tigres and the search for greatness

The team managed by Ricardo Ferreti are looking for their eighth title, if they win this tournament they will pass Pumas and tie Cruz Azul in trophies won. Nicolas Lopez is their big signing this year and he came from Inter de Porto Alegre in Brazil. Right now they only let go of Lucas Zelarayan who moved to MLS but other players like Salcedo and Valencia could leave the club in the next couple of days.

Monterrey wants to go back-to-back

They beat America in the final last year and now Rayados are one of the teams forced to fight for the title this Clausura 2020. Monterrey have not signed any players yet which means that the head coach, Antonio Mohamed, will rely on the same group for this tournament. Keep in mind that like America, they will start the tournament in the second week when they host Monarcas Morelia.

Quality foreigners arrive to La Liga MX this year

Jorge Valdivia will play for Monarcas, Ignacio Jeraldino and Luciano Acosta for Atlas, Nicolas Lopez for Tigres and Pablo Cepelini for Cruz Azul. These are some of the ‘big names’ that have arrived in the Mexican soccer championship this year. These new faces will increase the quality of soccer in Liga MX and the enjoyment factor for fans too.
