PSG dressing room tries to convince Cavani to stay
Tuchel and various players have tried to sway the Uruguayan to stay at the club because they believe for PSG to reach their objectives, he is needed.
Edinson Cavani has become one of the potential big-names moves of the January transfer market. He has lost his starting place at PSG to Mauro Icardi and has told the clube he wants out. The Uruguayan has an offer from Atlético Madrid and he is keen to accept. Diego Simeone believes his side are a no.9 shy of competing to the maximum in the second half of the year. But PSG won't let their striker go and Cavani's teammates are trying to convince him to stay.
Atlético Madrid will have to face-off against one of the toughest negotiators there is in Nasser Al-Khelaifi. The president of PSG has proven this when it came to Verratti, Draxler and, recently, Neymar as they all tried to talk their way out of the club to no avail.
The first to ask him publicly to stay was Thomas Tuchel. During his press conference after the 1-4 victory over Monaco, the German said: "I want Cavani to stay with us until the end of the season. To achieve the objectives we have as a club, we need him."
Thiago Silva, PSG's captain was next: "We have to keep Edi. For a team like PSG, who want to do important things, a player like him is needed. He has lost a bit of confidence because of injuries but he is with us and we have confidence in him. He is our killer."
The next few days will be crucial to determine the former Napoli striker's future. PSG won't drop their €30 million price tag despite the fact he finishes his contract in June and Atlético have offered €10 million. On Sunday, PSG travel to play Lorient to play in the French Cup and there is a chance that Cavani won't be calle into the squad with the idea that the Uruguayan has no intention of continuing in the French capital.
