Gianluca Petrachi, the sports director for AS Roma, spoke to Sky Sports ahead of the city derby against Lazio on Sunday afternoon, and acknowledged being one step away from the signing of Barcelona's Carles Pérez.

Carles Pérez close to Roma move

“We continue with our philosophy, investing in young talented players," explained Petrachi. "The negotiations [for Pérez] are at an advanced stage. We have an excellent relationship with Barcelona and we are talking to the player. Obviously we need to convince him we have the right sports project here for him.

“I never say that anything is complete until it is all signed, but I'm optimistic. Roma are nobody’s feeder club, so if anyone comes here they will be a Roma player. There will be no repurchase option.

The Giallorossi are also expecting to bring in Gonzalo Villar from Elche.

"He is a midfielder with enormous quality, perfect for Fonseca, who agrees with the decision to sign him.

"I hope we can finalised it as soon as possible."
