Club America will put out their best players against Comunicaciones
Miguel Herrera has won 4 titles with America but he has never won the Concacaf Champions League. Tonight they play Comunicaciones for the Round of 16.
Club America arrived in Guatemala with nearly their full squad to face Comunicaciones on Wednesday night in the first Leg of the Round of 16 of the Concacaf Champions League. The only players that didn’t make the trip are Nicolas Castillo and Benedetti who are recovering from serious injuries suffered last week.
Miguel Herrera has been America’s boss on two occasions and both times he has failed to win this title, meaning this semester one of his main objectives is to conquer an international championship.
“We know it is going to be a very difficult tournament and we want to play the Club World Cup so we will put out our best team tomorrow night to seal the play-off as soon as possible. I am not obsessed with winning it but we are Club America and we are obligated to win every tournament we participate in,” said Herrera in the pregame news conference.
Even though America traveled with their entire squad, Miguel Herrera said there will be some changes in the starting 11 that beat Atlas 2-0 on Saturday night, “Everyone is healthy, we will train today in Guatemala and then I will decide that starting line-up to face Comunicaciones on Wednesday. The only doubt I have is with Henry Martin who suffered a heavy hit against Atlas and we will see how he practices today to decide whether he starts or comes off the bench.”
America wants to have Castillo and Benedetti healthy as soon as possible
Paul Aguilar mentioned he has been talking to Nicolas Castillo and Benedetti since they suffered a serious injury couple days ago and hopes they both can return before the current semester ends, “We have been talking a lot and they know are counting on them to return as soon as possible. For now they have to be patient and get healthy, that’s all they can really do.”
Tough week for America
America defeated Atlas in the sixth week of the Liga MX Clausura 2020. They will play in Guatemala tomorrow night against Comunicaciones for the Concacaf Champions League and will visit Monterrey on Saturday night for the seventh week of the semester.
