PSG’s silent transfer window: $120M earned, zero spent by the Champions League winners
After winning back-to-back Champions Leagues, Paris Saint Germain have not made a single singing in the transfer market, instead they are in a selling mode.
When you have won back-to-back Champions Leagues massive overhauls and big time transfers aren’t exactly necessities, but Paris Saint Germain did have some top targets on their summer wishlist. So far the French giants have yet to bring anyone in, but have deepend their pockets by selling players and brining in over $100 million.
Real Madrid swoop in for Yan
PSG are already one of the richest clubs in the world. Their seemingly endless funds have helped build one of the best squads in Europe, but they haven’t found success by spending aimlessly. They have built a complete team from top to bottom and the brought in a coach that had experience winning the top trophies on the continent and knew what it would take to bring this club to uncharted waters.
With a young team that has already won so much, you don’t go tinkering with the squad too much and that seems to have been the policy this summer. There were some big names that PSG had identified, but as of now they haven’t landed a single one.
Yan Diomande was at the top of the list. The RB Leipzig winger exploded on to the international scene over the last two years and was the gem of this summer transfer window. PSG had their sights set on the 19 year old, but Real Madrid seems to have beaten them to the punch. That left the French side infuriated, and released a statement directed at the player and his likely new club. “The transfer fee being demanded, as well as the player’s salary expectations, were completely disproportionate and of such a scale that they would have distorted the market,” said PSG in an official statement.
PSG returning the favor with Rodri?
According to reports, the fury diverted PSG’s attention to one of Real Madrid’s targets, Manchester City midfielder and World Cup Golden Ball winner Rodri. The back-to-back reigning Champions League winners have joined the race for Rodri, and while the interest might be real, some are claiming they are looking to make a big offer just to raise the asking price to complicate Real Madrid’s big for former Ballon d’Or winner.
Rodri has stated his intentions of joining Real Madrid on multiple occasions, and the Bernabeu seems to be the only place the Madrid native wants to go. Real Madrid have been tentative with their interest and if PSG should look to put Madrid in a bidding war, that could dissuade Los Blancos intentions to sign the Spaniard.
While PSG’s main targets look to be tied down, they have had a productive summer brining in money. They have sold three players for a total of over $120 million, which could come in handy should they want to make a bid for a big name late in the transfer market. Gonçalo Ramos was PSG’s biggest pay out selling him to AC Milan for $85 million. Kang-In Lee was bought by Atletico de Madrid for $45 million and 19 year old Noham Kamara brought in another $5 million.
That total could sky rocket with the potential departure of Bradley Barcola. The French winger is reportedly wanting a move away from Paris, and Liverpool and Arsenal are lining up what could be the biggest, most expensive move of the summer. Rumors claim that PSG could fetch up to $193 million if they do end up selling Barcola.
