Real Madrid extend Pedro Ruiz's contract until 2022
Real Madrid have offered a new deal to the 19-year-old Castilla centre-forward, who was a first choice up until he suffered a serious injury in January.
Pedro Ruiz has renewed his contract with Real Madrid until 30 June 2022, adding another year onto his existing arrangement. With this new deal, the club is displaying their faith in a player who, up until last month, was first choice in Raúl's Castilla side. Ruiz suffered a serious injury last month, damaging the anterior cruciate ligament as well as the external and internal meniscus in his left knee and will miss the rest of the season.
Real Madrid Castilla's Pedro Ruiz likened to Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Madrid had been satisfied with the player's progression up until his injury. Ruiz has been dubbed ‘La Fábrica's Ibrahimovic’ for the similarities he shares with the Swedish striker (he is 1.97 metres tall but is suprisingly skillful with both feet). Several European clubs have been closely following the player and Madrid didn't want him to start next season with just one year to run on his contract. Ruiz is a powerful centre-forward with qualities that are difficult to find inthe transfer market and Madrid want to tie him down for the medium-term.
Ruiz to miss the Olympics Games
The bad news is that they player has no chance of being with the Spain squad at this summer's Olympics in Tokyo. Ruiz was born in March 2000 but the tournament is open to players born after 1997. He was the only Castilla player in Luis de la Fuente's preliminary list.
