Necaxa came, saw and conquered the Aztec stadium on Saturday night when they defeated a 9 player Club America 3-0 with two goals from Mauro Quiroga.

Before the beginning of the 8th week of the Clausura 2020, Club America was at the top of the table but then on Friday night Cruz Azul defeated Monarcas and there was a new leader. The team from the capital of Mexico received Necaxa knowing that they had to tie to regain the top of the table.

Things didn’t go as well as Miguel Herrera thought because in the first 15 minutes their center back Bruno Valdez stepped on Maximiliano Salas and the referee Oscar Mejia gave him the red card right away leaving America with 10 players.

Seven minutes later the visiting team took advantage of the situation and Mauro Quiroga scored the first goal of the game after a great cross from Jairo Gonzalez. Nothing that America’s goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa could do.

With one more player Necaxa felt and looked better on the field. Since they were winning they kept going forward and at the 27th minute once again Mauro Quiroga braced his second of the game.

Things went from bad to worst for America because at the 55th minute Santiago Caceres, who arrived late in the semester to the team, kicked a Necaxa player in the back and the VAR told the referee it was a red card. Starting the second half the home team had 9 players with a lot of minutes left in the game and already down 2-0.

Necaxa then stopped being so aggressive but at the 86th minute Juan Delgado scored the third and last goal of the game, nothing Ochoa could do once again, and just like that the visiting team was leaving the Aztec stadium with 3 points.

With this victory Necaxa goes up to the 8th place and 11 points in 8 games. While America dropped to second place but they are tied with Cruz Azul with 16 points who currently are at the top of the table.
