LaLiga estimate that the economic impact of suspending matches in the top two divisions - LaLiga Santander and LaLiga SmartBank will be 678.8 million euros - if the measure is extended until the end of the season. Clubs will lose 549 million euros in revenue from television rights, 88 million from season tickets and 41.4 million from turnstile receipts, according to a study made by the competition organisers.

On top of that, there is the knock-on effect from other sectors - sponsorship money and the industry itself, which generates 1.37% de PIB. Bars, hotels, transport... The football industry is a big part of the economy which many businesses in the country depend on. So in the end, the calculations could exceed 678.8 million euros.

If the decision is made to hold all of the remaining league fixtures behind closed doors until the end of the season, top flight clubs would stand to lose 38.8 million euros in gate receipts and 78.1 from season tickets, while in the Second Division, clubs would have a shortfall of 2.6 and 9.9 million euros in those areas respectively. In total, the losses suffered by clubs in the top division could be 117 million euros and in LaLiga SmartBank, 12.5 million.

By suspending games, LaLiga Santander clubs face losing income of 435 million euros in television broadcasting rights out of a total of 1,664 million. In the second tier, clubs will lose 48 million from audiovisual rights out of a total of 185 million.

As it stands, after holding a crisis meetings with the RFEF and AFE, LaLiga announced the next two matchdays in the top two divisions will be postponed. At first, games corresponding to Weeks 28 and 29 of LaLiga Santander and Weeks 32 and 33 of LaLiga SmartBank would be played behind closed doors. In the end, the tournament organisers accepted the proposal made by the government, players' syndicate and RFEF to put the competition on on hold for everyone's health - especially the players, some of whom are already in quarantine.
