Cornovirus: Barça legends won’t be at Anfield for charity game
Chapi Ferrer’s Barcelona legends side have been forced to cancel their meeting with Liverpool on 28 March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Barcelona confirmed late on Thursday night that Barça Legends "have been forced to postpone their next engagement, a match against Liverpool Legends at Anfield on 28 March as a consequence of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic and following measures taken by FC Barcelona to cancel all of the trips abroad planned by all of the club’s team for tournaments and friendly games during the months of March and April".
The Liverpool Legends-Barcelona Legends charity match had generated interest in Liverpool, with tickets for the game selling out a while ago. Liverpool FC have informed that tickets for the game will remain valid for when a new date is found.
LFC Foundation director Matt Parish explained, “We would like to thank all those supporters who have purchased tickets for their understanding in this matter. Please hold on to your ticket and we look forward to seeing you at the game when we can rearrange it. Thanks to your generosity and continued support of the Foundation, these charitable games make a huge difference to the work we do and help us impact even more people. Through our community fund, £100,000 will be made available to local charities and community groups. In addition, funds also raised will be used to fund our partnership with Right To Play, which brings together two leaders in the fields of sport and play to benefit vulnerable children both at home and around the world, as well as enabling us to directly support even more children and young people across the Liverpool City Region through our own delivery.”
Chapi Ferrer’s Barcelona legends side recently returned from a tour of Colombia. Some of the club’s most historic players have featured for the team, including Carles Puyol, Rivaldo, Miguel Ángel Nadal, Hristo Stoichkov and Sergi Barjuan.
