Coronavirus: 37-year-old civil guard dies in Spain
Pedro Alameda, 37, is the first civil guard to pass away due to coronavirus after battling with the virus for a number of days in the suburbs of Madrid.
A 37-year-old civil guard has died of coronavirus in Spain. Pedro Alameda had no underlying issues and is the first member of the Spanish civil guard to pass away during the current global pandemic.
Coronavirus takes young life
Alameda was working in the service compensation department and leaves a five-year-old daughter behind. The young man was also member of the Board of the Provincial Directors in the civil guard and had been carrying out his duties as normal before contracting and testing positive for the virus. He was at the Quirón hospital in Alcorcón, a suburb of Madrid, for several days with a grave prognosis before succumbing to the virus.
"To the family from the AUGC (the unified association of civil guards), we want to express our grief at this tragedy, as one of the five-hundred families to have lost a loved one due to this epidemic," the AUGC said in a public statement. "We can only show our affection and support for his family and all of those who knew Pedro and once again remind all citizens to comply with the government's restrictions to try and deal with this unprecedented threat."
In Spain, there are currently up to 13,716 cases of coronavirus with 616 deaths.
