Thomas Partey will listen to offers this summer

The English press say Arsenal and Manchester United are worried that Atlético Madrid will rise his release clause to €100 million with a new deal.

The offer for Thomas Partey has been on the table for months. The offer is from Atlético Madrid and they have offered the midfielder a payrise commensurate with his status in the squad. His release clause now is €50 million, which is accessible for Premier League clubs, some of whom are obsessed with the Ghanaian.

Manchester United and Arsenal, for example. Mail Online say that both clubs are worried that the 26-year-old will sign his new Atlético deal in the coming weeks and that would see his release clause double to €100 million and extend his stay to 2023.

The fact that he hasn't signed, however, gives clubs hopes that his intention is to listen to offers this summer. Cholo Simeone, in particular, is concerned that his central midfielder, a player central to his team's play, is considering listening to the offers that might come in for him. When rumours started last summer about Man City's interest in Rodri, Cholo was certain that of the two, Partey was untouchable.

"My agent is speaking with the club," he said. "Sometimes what we want we can't have but I hope everything turns out well." The midfielder says he is "proud to attract attention from more clubs" and says it motivates him to keep improving. "Leave? Sometimes it's not the decision of the player, but the club too. If Atlético want me, I'll be here until they don't and then we will see what we'll do."
