Monaco GP

Monaco Grand Prix cancelled

The most famous circuit in Formula 1 racing, Monaco, won't host its Grand Prix this year, as the doubts over how long the coronavirus pandemic will last make it impossible to guarantee staging the event. Monaco has held an F1 race every year since 1955, although the history of motorsport in the principality far predates that - the first Grand Prix held there was in 1929. Formula 1 will return to Monaco in 2021.

Death toll doubles in Belgium

The medical authorities in Belgium report a further 30 deaths from coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll from the pandemic to 67. They also confirmed 550 new cases, giving a total of 2,815. A spokesperson for the Belgian government said the increases were in line with what was expected. 

Italian cases rise

Bad news from Italy, with the country seeing the biggest increase in the death toll from coronavirus in the past 24 hours - a further 793 victims, bringing the total number to have died to 4,825. The country has now registered 53,578  official cases. 
 

Total coronavirus cases in Africa now over 1,000

The total number of coronavirus cases in Africa are now over 1,000, with 40 of the continent's 54 countries being hit in the pandemic. Angola reported its first case today, while Congo reported its first death.

This jogger out breaking the rules on the lock-down in Spain was given little sympathy by enraged onlookers. "Get in the police car you idiot!"

"I know that Coronavirus can make people nervous, but I want to reassure you all to stay calm, not to panic and remember to share some kindness and look after people who need help. Don’t forget that handwashing is the most important thing you can do to protect yourself and others from coronavirus. It’s more than just a quick rinse, you need to make sure you are using soap and water and washing for at least 20 seconds.. F1 driver Lewis Hamilton tweeted about his health having attended an event with Idris Elba and Sophie Trudeau who both subsequently tested positive for coronavirus. He's self-isolating and has no symptoms. 

Big jump in cases in Switzerland

Switzerland is reporting 6,100 coronavirus infections in total, a jump of 25% on Friday, with 56 deaths overall. The hardest hit area is the canton of Ticino, which borders Italy: “The situation in Ticino is very tense,” said Daniel Koch, the head of the federal office of health’s communicable diseases division. 
 

The UK government has held its latest press conference and has asked people to be respectful and thoughtful.

The amount of panic buying is affecting the supply chain flow, and has a huge impact on people (including healthcare workers) who are not in a position to do so, due to long hours or limited finances.

Leicester City and Nigeria midfielder Wilfred Ndidi offered his thanks to the healthcare staff on the frontline of this COVID-19 crisis. The UK has now registered more than 4,000 cases...
