The Spanish football federation and LaLiga have officially agreed to postpone the Spanish football league and all professional football until further notice. LaLiga was initially postponed for two weeks but with the Spanish president extending the 'state of alarm' until the middle of April, the idea of football returning is impossible at the moment.

A statement released by the federation says it will not return “until the relevant authorities and the Spanish government consider it will come at no risk to health.”

The federation, like LaLiga, also said they wanted to show their appreciation for the public who are doing what they can in this difficult time and sent condolences to those who have passed away from the virus and their families.

LaLiga will be finished

Javier Tebas remains committed to finishing LaLiga. Players' contracts finish on June 30 and that might mean playing a number of games in a short period of time with European competitions squeezed in as well. Euro 2020 has been postponed to alleviate the pressure on leagues to get their seasons finished.

The financial effect of this postponement is still unknown but some predictions say LaLiga clubs could lose over half a billion euro. Barcelona players have already agreed to take a wage cut and the potential of losing money from ticket sales will also eat into clubs' revenue at a very uncertain time.

A lot of uncertainty remains but LaLiga have been assessing four potential scenarios depending on how the impact of coronavirus changes in Spain, Europe and the world.
