According to the latest figures published by Johns Hopkins University, 2,394,278 cases have been detected worldwide, with 164,937 deaths and 611,791 people now recovered.
In Nigeria, there have been 541 cases, with 19 deaths and 166 people recovering from the virus.

Kenya sees three politicians arrested for lockdown partying
A total of 17 people were arrested at a party by Kenyan police including three politicians. This happened at a club in Nyeri town, Kenya, during the coronavirus lockdown.
The politicians who were members of the County Assembly (MCA) were locked inside a mansion in the Kingongo area, Nyeri County when they were caught on Friday, April 17. They were part of the 17 revellers who were nabbed at the house which they had reportedly converted into a club.
African football 'indefinitely' on hold
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the indefinite postponement of the finals of the Total CAF Confederation Cup and Total CAF Champions League 2019/20 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Katsina sees 47 killed by 'armed bandits'
Gunmen killed 47 people in attacks on villages in the northwestern Nigerian state of Katsina in the early hours of Saturday, local police said, via Reuters. 'Armed bandits', some of whom wielded AK 47 guns, carried out the attacks, Katsina police said in a statement on Sunday.
Hundreds of people have been killed in the last year by criminal gangs carrying out robberies and kidnappings in northwest Nigeria. Such attacks have added to security challenges in Africa's most populous country, which is already struggling to contain Islamist insurgencies in the northeast and communal violence over grazing rights in central states.
'There was reports of organised and simultaneous attacks in villages in Danmusa, Dutsenma and Safana by groups of armed bandits,' Katsina police said in a statement. 'Detachments of Police, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Airforce, Civil Defence and DSS (Department of State Services) have been drafted to the area,' they added.
Total lockdown announced in Katsina
After two people tested positive for Covid-19, Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State announced a total lockdown on Katsina town from 07:00 on Tuesday.
“We have discussed and agreed that from 7am on Tuesday, there will be a total lockdown on Katsina. It is a stay-at-home order we shall implement strictly.
“Should we have any confirmed case in any local government, we will equally lockdown that local government completely,” he said.

Edo lockdown
Edo has become the latest Nigerian state to issue a lockdown order, reports the Daily Post. The quarantine will last for an initial period of 10 days, Executive Governor of Edo State Godwin Obaseki stated.

Those who attended Abba Kyari's burial should be put into quarantine
Medical experts have advised the government to place all of the people who attended the burial of Abba Kyari, the former Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, as a safety precaution, daily Punch reports.
Social distancing in three of Nigeria's key cities, of which Abuja is one, has been in place since the end of March but health figures have pointed out that those measures were breached when hundreds turned up at Guda Cemetary yesterday to pay their respects.
Authorities have asked the public to maintain a distance of six feet when in the company of others while all gatherings of over 50 people is prohibited.

“The Presidency regrets to announce the passage of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari,” presidential spokesman Garba Shehu said on Friday. Kyari had been hospitalised in Lagos after testing positive for the coronavirus upon his return from a trip to Germany in mid-March.
