Eredivisie's restart is in danger. The Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, has banned all licensed events until 1 September, which includes professional football. The government had originally put a ban in place until 1 June but the recent announcement means the current season could be over.

"It's unfortunate but we can't take the risk," said Rutte in a press conference on Tuesday. "We have to make this sacrifice and I hope the people do it."

The members of the league along with the football federation, the KNVB, will have to make a decision soon about what to do with the football season but everything is pointing towards it being cancelled.

In Belgium, their close neighbour, they have already named Club Brugge as the winner. It remains to be seen what Netherlands will do but Ajax are top of the league but are equal on points with AZ Alkmaar. They will also have to sort out who gets into Europe.

Another possibility is to restart the league in Germany as some Dutch media report. The Bundesliga will restart on 9 May and that could leave the option open for the Eredivisie to relocate for the remaining games of the season.
