AC Milan have set their sights on Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic, says the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s future at Milan up in the air, chiefs at the Serie A club are looking at potential alternatives at centre-forward, with Jovic reportedly among the players on the Rossoneri’s radar.

Jovic's name comes up in Milan talks with agent over Rebic

Milan are said to have sounded out Jovic’s likely salary demands during talks with agent Fali Ramadani over the future of winger Ante Rebic, who the Albanian also represents. Rebic, who formed a successful partnership with Jovic at Eintracht Frankfurt last season, is currently on loan at the San Siro.

According to Gazzetta's report, Madrid would be willing to hold talks with Milan over a player who has scored just twice since moving to the Bernabéu last summer, but they are not prepared to let him leave permanently.

Heel injury caps difficult couple of months for Jovic

Having struggled at Madrid in the wake of his 60-million-euro switch from Eintracht, Jovic has endured a particularly difficult two months since LaLiga was suspended over the coronavirus pandemic.

The 22-year-old was accused of flouting stay-at-home rules in his native Serbia in March, and on Friday it was confirmed that he will be out for two months after suffering a heel injury just days ahead of Los Blancos’ return to training on Monday.

Madrid give Jovic assurances over Bernabéu future

However, despite his unsuccessful first season in Spain, AS understands that Madrid have sought to give the player assurances over his future at the club, with head coach Zinedine Zidane telling him that he remains in his plans.
