Bayern Munich: “It is too early to talk about Sergino Dest”

The Bundesliga is the first major league in Europe to return to action after the coronavirus break and the teams have been practicing for about three weeks now to resume the 2019/2020 season. Currently Bayern Munich is at the top of the table with 9 games left of the regular season that it is supposed to finish on 30 June.

Prior to the start of week 26, Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge talked about returning to the field and other subjects in a video press conference organized by the team for international media.

Our team has been quarantined this week and our players have been tested for coronavirus and all of the results have been negative. We stopped the league in March but we had daily cyber-training sessions during that time with all of our players and after the decision made by the politicians to resume the league we were allowed to have normal training sessions,” said Rummenigge.

Sergino Dest has been linked with a move to Munich

Ajax are ready to hold talks over Sergino Dest’s proposed move to Bayern Munich this summer since the USMNT defender has been linked with a move to the Bundesliga for several months. Before the coronavirus break, Dest confirmed that he visited Munich without an invitation from the club and when asked about this visit, Rummenigge said it was too soon to talk about the transfer market.

I don’t want to talk about the transfer market because right now our main objective is to finish the season, once we finish it we can talk about players coming to Munich. Even then I can tell you that the transfer market will be totally different from the past years,” confirmed Rummenigge during the Zoom press conference.

US Tour most likely not happening this year

In the past 10 years Bayern Munich has done their summer pre-season in the United States or China playing the International Champions Cup, but due to the coronavirus pandemic affecting the entire world the German club won’t be making a trip to the U.S. this year.

"This year it will be very difficult to plan a preseason outside Germany because of all the precautions that we have to take as a team due to the Covid-19 pandemic. For example in the United States the President has canceled non-essential flights coming in so I think given the circumstances it will be impossible to plan a preseason in another country,” said Rummenigge.
