California relief payment for immigrants: how much and how to apply
As of Monday, 18 May and through 30 June, undocumented immigrants in California impacted by the coronavirus crisis will be able to apply for relief payments.
In what has been hailed as an unprecedented move in the US, California is offering financial support to undocumented immigrants as of Monday, 18 May.
The relief payment, a first of its kind, will be available to undocumented immigrants who are not eligible to receive federal relief funding.
Under the scheme, a partnership between the state and non-profit groups, California has set aside $125 million to help up to 150,000 vulnerable undocumented immigrants, who have been one if the worst affected groups by the coronavirus crisis.
The one-off payments will be $500 per adult, with a limit of $1,000 per household. People can begin to apply on Monday through June 30.

Who is eligible for the payment?
Applicants for the benefit most meet the following criteria:
- They must be at least 18 years old and undocumented
- They must be ineligible for federal COVID-19 relief like the CARES Act
- They must have experienced a hardship due to the virus
Applicants will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis and must get in contact with organization that is serving their county.
