In what has been hailed as an unprecedented move in the US, California is offering financial support to undocumented immigrants as of Monday, 18 May.

The relief payment, a first of its kind, will be available to undocumented immigrants who are not eligible to receive federal relief funding.

Under the scheme, a partnership between the state and non-profit groups, California has set aside $125 million to help up to 150,000 vulnerable undocumented immigrants, who have been one if the worst affected groups by the coronavirus crisis

The one-off payments will be $500 per adult, with a limit of $1,000 per household. People can begin to apply on Monday through June 30.
