The Khalifa International stadium, the first World Cup 2022 venue to be inaugurated, has been declared one of Asia's leading stadiums, alongside other architectural masterpieces.

The Asian Football Confederation, in an article recognises the fame achieved by the Khalifa International stadium; the ground has been completely redeveloped for the World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

The ground has been awarded four stars in the GSAS programme - Global Sustainability Assessment System. It holds 40,000 spectators, a capacity which will not be reduced after the World Cup, unlike the other venues for the tournament, and will host games up to the quarter-finals.

Outside the stadium stands Qatar's Olympic Museum, which will be opened before the start of the 2022 World Cup, becoming one of the tourist attractions which will open their doors to the crowds visiting Doha to watch the games at the World Cup.

The air conditioning system is one of the notable stand-outs in the Khalifa stadium, technology developed by Qatar to help win the rights to hold the World Cup in 2022. The pitch will be at 26 degrees, while temperatures in the stands will vary between 24 and 28 degrees.

Qataris in particular and residents of the Gulf in general have great memories of the Al-Khalifa Stadium, which was opened in 1976, renovated in 2005 for the Asian Games 2006, and then redeveloped in 2014 to meet FIFA's highest standards in order to host games at the World Cup 2022.

In 2009, Brazil played England in a friendly match at the stadium, a year after a friendly between Brazil and Argentina. In 2011, the Khalifa hosted the finals of the Asian Cup and has hosted the semi-finals and final of the World Club Cup.

In 2015 the Al-Khlafi International, where the Qatar national side wine the Gulf Cup of Nations in 1992, one of their greatest ever triumphs, hosted games in 15th Asian Games.
