MLB confirms testing delays, doesn't expect recurrence
Major League Baseball said Monday that 'unforeseen delays' caused some teams not to receive results of their COVID-19 player tests in a timely manner over the Fourth of July weekend. 'Our plan required extensive delivery and shipping services, including proactive special accommodations to account for the holiday weekend,' a statement from MLB read.
'The vast majority of those deliveries occurred without incident and allowed the protocols to function as planned. Unfortunately, several situations included unforeseen delays. We have addressed the delays caused by the holiday weekend and do not expect a recurrence.'
Due to the delays, the Washington Nationals, Houston Astros and St. Louis Cardinals canceled Monday's scheduled workouts as a precaution.

FDA head on Trump's vaccine claims
Stephen Hahn, the head of the FDA, has refused to back President Donald Trump's claim that a Covid-19 vaccine will be ready long before the end of 2020.
Asked on CNN how likely he thought it was that Americans will be able to go to their doctor and get a vaccine in January he replied: "Well that’s one of the core responsibilities of the government, is to actually develop a plan for making sure that people actually can get access to the vaccine when it’s available.
“I can’t speculate when a vaccine will be available, although I think amazing work has been done by the [National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases] and others in terms of the development. I’m optimistic based on what we’ve seen so far, but I really can’t speculate on that. Our job at FDA is to look at the data when it’s available.”
Trump plans New Hampshire rally as he works to re-energize campaign
President Donald Trump plans an outdoor rally in New Hampshire on Saturday, the campaign's second of the coronavirus era following one in Tulsa, Oklahoma, last month that failed to draw the crowds his advisers predicted.
The campaign's announcement on Sunday of the planned rally comes at the end of a holiday weekend that saw the Republican reaffirm his vow to defeat what he called the "radical left," as polls show him trailing presumptive Democratic nominee former Vice President Joe Biden ahead of the Nov. 3 election.
Trump's campaign said the rally would be held at 8 p.m. at Portsmouth International Airport and, in a nod to a national rise in coronavirus cases, would provide hand sanitizer and face masks.
"We look forward to so many freedom-loving patriots coming to the rally and celebrating America," Hogan Gidley, Trump 2020 national press secretary, said in a statement.
New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley said the rally would "only further highlight the chaos" Trump had caused in his "woefully inadequate" handling of the coronavirus pandemic. Trump narrowly lost the state to Democrat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election.

Hello and welcome to our live, rolling coverage of the coronavirus in the United States
Almost 11.5 million people globally have contracted the disease according to official figures, and well over half a million have lost their lives to the virus since it started to spread globally at the beginning of the year.
In the US, the first wave was believed to be over but that is obviously not the case. Texas, Florida, Arizona and California have seen a resurgence in new cases and record numbers of hospitalisations reaffirming fears that a second wave is a very real possibility.
