MLS is Back: Major League Soccer is coronavirus free
Prior to the beginning of 'MLS is Back' there were several coronavirus cases amongst players, which forced Dallas and Nashville to opt out the tournament.
Major League Soccer has successfully finished the first round of the MLS is Back tournament after losing two teams, FC Dallas and Nashville SC, due to players testing positive for Covid-19. The league announced that their last two rounds of testing all players and staff members in Orlando, Florida, have been coronavirus free.
The MLS published a statement that all 24 teams participating in the tournament have tested negative for Covid-19 as they remain in quarantine at the ESPN Wide World Sports Complex in following guidance from health experts.
The MLS announced that they have completed 1,406 Covid-19 tests between 14 and 15 July and all the results came back negative. That is a success for the MLS' containment policy because prior to the beginning of the tournament many players had tested positive.
Nashville player tests positive
The MLS did confirm that there was one case of someone testing positive but it was a player from Nashville, a team that had opted out of the tournament.
The news comes as Florida takes the focus of the coronavirus pandemic in the United States with the Department of Health reported 132 deaths and 9,194 new cases on Tuesday, a record high since economic activity began to reopen.
