MLB postpones games due to players testing positive for Covid-19
The MLB games between NY Yankees-Phillies and Miami Marlins-Baltimore Orioles were postponed after players tested positive for coronavirus.
Major League Baseball decided to postpone two games on Monday after a possible Covid-19 outbreak in the league. The night game between the Miami Marlins and Baltimore Orioles has been postponed because the Marlins players might have the virus. According to ESPN, at least seven players and two coaches have recently tested positive for the coronavirus.
The league also announced Monday morning that the game between Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees was also postponed. That game was going to be held at the Citizens Bank Park, home of the Phillies, but since the Marlins played there over the weekend the stadium is considered to be high risk.
The Miami Marlins had to delay their departure from Philadelphia after concluding a three-game series this past weekend against the Phillies. The Marlins decided to postpone their departure until Monday morning due to concerns of a possible Covid-19 outbreak. Also on Sunday night the Marlins reported four Covid-19 cases amongst their team on top of the seven reported on Monday.
MLB issued a statement after cancelling both games
“Tonight’s scheduled games between the Miami Marlins and the Baltimore Orioles at Marlins Park and the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Yankees at Citizens Bank Park have been postponed while Major League Baseball conducts additional COVID-19 testing. The members of the Marlins’ traveling party are self-quarantining in place while awaiting the outcome of those results…
... Major League Baseball has been coordinating with the Major League Baseball Players Association; the Marlins; the Orioles; the Marlins’ weekend opponent, the Phillies; and Club medical staffs, and will continue to provide updates as appropriate,” read the statement.
When the MLB decided to start the 2020 season amid the coronavirus pandemic, some of the players decided not to participate because they wanted to prioritize their health and of their families. David Price was one of them who will make their debut with Dodgers until 2021.
So when the news broke this morning Price was the first one to send a message to the league, "
Now we REALLY get to see if MLB is going to put players' health first. Remember when Manfred said players' health was paramount?! Part of the reason I’m at home right now is because players' health wasn’t being put first. I can see that hasn’t changed."
