President Donald Trump has publicly stated that Congress should send a big stimulus payment to Americans struggling amid the coronavirus pandemic, but negotiations about a fifth stimulus relief package continue to fall apart between Republicans and Democrats. Trump is telling the GOP to back more spending, but it appears that the senators are not listening to what he is saying.

Republicans going against Trump

While Trump wants to send more money, many of the GOP senators are opposing more federal spending, especially after Democrats did not approve the slim bill worth $300 billion last week. The reason they blocked that bill is because a group of 50 House lawmakers presented a $1.5 trillion relief plan that was even viewed with approval by president Donald Trump.

Some Republicans disagree, but I think I can convince them to go along with that because I like the larger number. I want to see people get money,” said Trump in a press conference.

Trump wants a relief package to be approved before the 3 November elections and is demanding that this new bill, among other measures, provide millions of Americans with a second round of stimulus payments worth up to $1,200 per individual.

“Democrats are heartless. They don’t want to give stimulus payments to people who desperately need the money, and whose fault it was not that the plague came in from China. Go for the much higher number Republicans, it all comes back to the USA anyway, one way or another,” Trump tweeted.
