Real Madrid player ratings from 3-2 win away to Real Betis
Sergio Ramos' late penalty handed all three points to Real Madrid. Varane and Valverde stood up to the task. Jovic was a surprise starter and was later replaced by Mayoral, for his first game since August 2018.
Courtois
Superb stop to deny Sanabria from point-blank range in the 7th minute. He had no chance for Betis' first but could've done more for Carvalho's goal at 2-1. In the 76th minute, he was at full stretch to push William Carvalho's effort beyond his post. 6/10
Carvajal
Always an outlet for Madrid down the right. Set up the attack and crossed for Emerson to put it into his own net for 2-2. 6.5/10
Varane
Again the best in defence for Los Blancos, delivering another strong performance and covering from other's mistakes on occasions. He blocked Fekir coming through at a crucial point of the game. 7.5/10
Ramos
He suffered continually when getting lost out of position. Scored from a Panenka penalty to give the away team all three points. Big improvement in his second half and went very close from a free-kick from Emerson's red card. His 17th consecutive season in Primera and 24th consecutive penalty. 7/10
Mendy
Offered so much down the left for Madrid. Looks like he'll be first-choice left-back again this season. 7/10
Valverde
Energetic and with a presence throughout, although Zidane continues to play him on the right. His goal in the 14th minute put Madrid in the driving seat. Helped create the goal for 2-2, starting the move for Carvajal's assist. 7.5/10
Casemiro
In for his first start of the season after starting on the bench versus Real Sociedad. Clumsy on the ball tonight and not his usual commanding self. Lost his aerial duel with Mandi for Betis to make it 1-1. 5/10
Kroos
Taken off just before half-time with a muscular problem. Barely involved in the opening half, his set-piece led to Betis' second goal. 5/10
Odegaard
Switched at half time for Isco. Lacking the freedom he had at Real Sociedad. Was caught napping for William Carvalho's goal to make it 2-1. 6/10
Benzema
Creator of Valverde's goal and forced Emerson's own goal. Also involved in Jovic's one-on-one with Emerson and Robles, which led to the latter being sent off. 8/10
Jovic
Surprising starter in Zidane's starting XI. Caused Emerson to get sent off with his run on goal. Very quiet in the first half and replaced by Mayoral in the second. 6/10
Modric
Came on for an injured Kroos in the 45th minute of the first half, but looked sluggish. 5/10
Isco
Came on at half-time. offered very little going forward, after replacing Odegaard in a like-for-like change. 5/10
Mayoral
Came on in the 72nd minute. His first two bits of action were both offside. He caused the penalty for Ramos to convert, maybe just enough to encourage Zidane to keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu. 6/10
