Javier Aguirre almost coached a team in Major League Soccer

Javier Aguirre is the most successful Mexican coach in the last decade and he revealed that he was close to getting involved in Major League Soccer a few months ago. He said that he likes the MLS for its organization and because they respect the coaches' work. For those reasons he almost accepted a job, but nothing happened at the end.

MLS is a league that keeps growing

Aguirre has managed the Mexican national team in two different World Cups and during an interview with ESPN he revealed that there was an option for him to manage a club in Major League Soccer a few months ago.

I’ve been in contact with several people linked to Major League Soccer and my name was on several lists, but at the end nothing happened,” said Aguirre.

Even though there has been no formal offer Aguirre is open to coach a team in MLS because of how much it is growing and how far the league will go in the near future. One of the things he likes is that the clubs respect the coaches projects and he used Matías Almeyda’s as an example with the San Jose Earthquakes.

“I like that the clubs respect the coaches work and just because you lose several games they let you go. Matías Almeyda is a great example because he lost four games by a huge goal margin and he still is managing the Earthquakes because they believe in his project,” added Aguirre.
