Chivas owner Amaury Vergara is fed up with Javier López, Dieter Villalpando, José Juan Vázquez and Alexis Peña, who have broken the rules several times during their time in Guadalajara. Vergara didn’t hesitate to say that “none of these four players will ever wear a Chivas jersey”.

Zero tolerance against breaches of code of conduct and ethics

On Wednesday 4 November Vergara and the club's general manager, Ricardo Peláez, held a video press conference confirming the news about the players, who will no longer be part of the team because at Chivas they will exercise a policy of zero tolerance against breaches of the code of conduct and ethics.

“We are all aware of what each player has done: Villalpando is being accused of rape so we decided to terminate his contract, Peña, Vázquez and López have been separated from the team and will be transferred to another club next tournament,” said Vergara.

“None of these four players will ever wear a Chivas jersey and the message is very clear to all the players who want to break the code of conduct and ethics of the club. Not everyone has the privilege of wearing this jersey and as a professional footballer you need to be committed 24 hours a day.

What's next for Chivas?

The team from Guadalajara has one game left of the regular season and they will host Monterrey on 7 November. Chivas is currently in 8th place and they need a victory to secure a spot in the playoffs.
