The US commemorates all Americans who have served in the armed forces with festivities and solemn events, but will the banks and post offices be open?
Veterans Day is celebrated every year on 11 November to honor all the servicemen and women that have served the United States. The holiday conjures up the sacred image of the laying of a wreath at the tomb of the unknown solider but is also a time of joyous events as Americans take pride in the service and sacrifice of men and women in uniform.
This year the holiday falls on a Wednesday and since it is a federal holiday many businesses are closed, but some remain open. The best way to check if something is open is by calling beforehand.
Are banks open on Veterans Day?
Due to the covid-19 pandemic many banks have limited their hours and restricted access to in-person services. Check your bank website to locate your branch or call ahead to find out branch specific information.
Generally, as a rule on these days brick-and-mortar branches will be closed and in-person services are not available. However, ATMs should be accessible at the local branch. Some banks do leave a limited number of branches open, typically inside grocery stores.
Digital banking is always available and you can do any of the routine banking via the bank or credit union website or app. However, the Federal Reserve is closed so any transactions will not be processed until the next business day.
