‘Chicote’ Calderón - “I thought fuck it, whatever happens, happens”
The 23-year-old scored three goals in the quarter-finals series between Chivas and America to give his team the ticket to the semi-finals of the 2020 Guardianes tournament.
Chivas has a new hero and his name is Cristian Calderón. Also known as the ‘Chicote’, Calderón scored three outstanding goals in the two legged series between Guadalajara and América in the quarter-finals of the 2020 Guardianes tournament of the Liga MX.
In the first leg he rifled the ball from outside the box to give Chivas the 1-0 victory against América at the Akron stadium. The ‘Chicote’ then shot two cannons, again from outside the box, to give Chivas the 2-1 victory on Saturday of against América at the Azteca stadium.
In both games he was interviewed afterwards and in both occasions he gave the same answer about what went through his head before making those long shots. “I thought, fuck it, if it goes in, it goes in,” he said in the post-match interview.
“I am very happy and when I saw Oribe Peralta with the ball I had made up my mind that if he gave it to me I was just going to shoot. The second goal I thought about it more, but again I was like fuck it and the ball hit the back of the net once again.”
Chivas next rival
Chivas are now in the semifinals and they will face the best team of the 2020 Guardianes tournament, Club León. The dates are to be determined, but the first leg will be played at the Akron stadium and the second leg in Guanajuato. Also it is expected that Chivas will open its doors for the semifinal game, just like they did with the match versus América.
