Klopp discusses possible Thiago return for Newcastle

Jurgen Kloop has given the latest fitness update on Thiago Alcantara ahead of Liverpool's meeting with Newcastle on Wednesday.

Jurgen Klopp could not confirm the return of Thiago Alcantara for Liverpool's game against Newcastle on Wednesday.

The Spanish midfielder has featured on just two occasions for The Reds since his arrival from Bayern Munich in September. The 29-year-old has not featured since 17 October against Everton in the Merseyside Derby due to a knee injury.

Asked if Thiago, who recently rejoined training with the group, could be back in time for Wednesday's meeting with Newcastle, Klopp appeared to suggest his return was unlikely but the German coch did not completely rule it out.

Klopp on Thiago's possible Liverpool return

"Thiago has trained in part with the team so far, but on Friday (Christmas Day), he trained the full session," Klopp said. "But it was a reduced session so we couldn't do that [full session].

"He just has to be part of team training [more]. It's not about being part of team training one day and then you can play football in the Premier League.

"So it looks quite promising at the moment but I cannot say more about it, to be honest. I don't know. I think the plan was that if he trains [on Monday] completely normally then we will see."
