Spurs 1-3 Liverpool
A bad run for Mou
(h/t www.sofascore.com)
The whiste sounds and its all over in North London.
A forlorn looking Mourinho on the Spurs bench with the injury to Harry Kane a major concern for the Portuguese coach.
Into the final minute of normal time and no way through for Tottenham with the visitors very much in control in the second half especially. We'll have five minutes of time added on.
Origi set to take the place of Firmino
Origi poised to have a run out
Liverpool looking very comfortable and from what we've seen from Tottenham since the third goal, the points heading back to Anfield certainly doesnt't seem to be in any danger.
Not been a vintage return for the Cardiff born striker who now has ten minutes to impress.
Bale on with Steven Bergwijn making way for the Welshman.
Liverpool make a mess of trying to pass out from the back but Spurs fail to capatalkise on the error.
No. 9.... Gareth Bale poised to make an entrance for Spurs.
Delightful pass from A-Arnold as Salah latches onto the ball and wins a cornner as Curtis Jones takes the place of Thiago.
Incredible the impact of no Harry Kane for Son with the lack of service from the England captain seeing the S.Korean a virtual specttaor in this half.
Liverpool will leapfrog West Ham should they bag the win here in the capital. There is still a long, long way to go in this 2020/21 Premier League race...
It's been a very, very quiet second half from Heung-Min Son with the South Korean international not getting any service fromn his team-mates.
Ball falls to Thiago but the Spanish international fails to secure any sense of accuracy and fires wide.
20' remain here in North London and Spurs will now need to dig deep if they are to get anything from this contest.
Time for Spurs to look to the bench .... Bale time ?
Mane makes it three as Rodon loses his man. Great strike by the Senegalese striker rifling home from close range with the left boot. Sublime pass from A-Arnold.
Firmino blazes the ball into the side netting and would have needed to deliver something special from that angle. Slight lull now in proceedings after a real roller coaster opening to the half
Less than 30 remain as Wijnaldum screws the ball past Lloris' post.
Spurs still in this game.
No goal.....
The match official has disallowed the goal and it's a free-kick for Tottenham.
It does appear that the Brazilian does use his hand to control the ball. Martin Atkinson will now look at the screen and make the final call.
VAR is being consulted again after a possible handball (via Firmino)
Great finish from the Egyptian striker ....
Thiago now patched up with a big old white bandage as its the home side on the ball
The heavens have opened now in North London with the rain ensuring a quick surface. Things have calmed down after a frantic start to the second 45'. Thiago in the dressing room getting patched up.
It's the former Bayern man who looks to have come off the worse.
Clash of heads as Thiago and Rodon dispute a ball and the medics rush onto the pitch.
What a great goal from the former Saints player who caught the ball exceptionally to leave Alisson with no chance ...What an opening five minutes of the half.
Philips carded.
Trent Alexander Arnold fires home after a spill from Lloris. First goal of the season for the right back with a fine finish. A poor goal from a Spurs perspective.
Salah with a decent chance but hits the ball over the bar.
Winks and Lamela on for Spurs with Kane and Aurier off
Philips on for Matip (Liverpool change)
Very entertaining first 45 with Liverpool just about good value for their lead. Worrying with Dier and Kane appearing to be struggling with knocks for the Londoners and Son needs to get on the ball more for Spurs as the South Korean is a major, major threat.
The whistle sounds and its the visitors lead as we take a break.
Mane breaks and fires across the goal mouth with an easy finish for the Brazilian striker.
Milner crosses and Mane fails to direct his header on target as Liverpool probe now in the added time. Spurs defending deeply now and one feels that it will be Jurgen Klopp the happier of the two managers as we head towards the break.
We'll have 4 minutes of time given the series of stoppages in the first half.
Mane almost opens the scoring as once again Lloris is on hand to repel the shot. Liverpool have created the better of the chances in this bright first half.
Salah breaks well after a slip-up from Doherty but the Egyptian striker fails to pick out Mane with his less favoured right foot.
Bergwijn now hobbling for Spurs as we hit the 40 minute mark
Spurs now looking for lofted balls over the Liverpool rear guard with both Son and Bergwijn trying to time their runs to latch onto the deliveries.
Kane is back on the pitch and feeds Son with Alisson just grasping the ball inches inside his own box. Not sure for how much longer we'll see Kane in action here in North London.
Kane now limps off.... this does not look great for the England captain.
No, the Spurs physio is moving the left ankle and this could be worrying for Mourinho and the Tottemnham faithful.
Kane holding his knee after a clash with Henderson.
Dier and Kane now down for Spurs. Dier colliding with Mane.
Tottenham Hotspur's Portuguese head coach Jose Mourinho gestures during the English Premier League football match between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
Stat attack on the 30 minute mark:
Bergwijn second Spurs player to be carded
Doherty wins a corner and has been impressive at left back despite the reservations of Spurs fans pre-game.
There is a sense of danger for Liverpool each time Son picks up the ball and is given space to run.
Gary's enjoying it and indeed it is a bright game with chances at both ends.
Liverpool now on top and the side carving out the better chances. Spurs sitting deep and it's the men in red with the initative.
Thiago carded as he clips Hoejbjerg
Mane goes close and the effort forces Lloris into action as he gets down well to grasp the effort from the Senegalese striker.
Firmino strikes but his right footed drive is straight at Lloris as Spurs spring and move the ball to the other goal mouth and this time Alisson is level to the Son effort.
Son goes to ground and appeals half-heartedly for a penalty after he felt he was impeded by Matip. Play waved on by the match official.
Constant pressure from Liverpool but the move breaks down with a mis-placed Mane pass. Much better from the visitors now as they regain possession and build with patience.
Kane is back on his feet but certainly looks somewaht tentative as play resumes.
Kane clipped by Thiago and the England captain is still on the pitch in some pain. Play held up and Spurs fans hoping that's it's not the ankle that has troubled the striker in the past.
Nice combination from Kane, Son as Doherty just overhits a through ball with Alisson gathering well.
Play held up as Joe Rodon complains of an elbow....
Plenty of pace to the game with Liverpool starting to ease their way into the action as Mane almost finds Firmino.
Despite the goal not standing, the execution from Son was wonderful, all the hallmarks of a player full of confidence.
No goal the verdict.... As we were at 0-0, a major let-off for the visitors with Spurs looking lively already in this opening spell of the game.
VAR being consulted with a hint of offside against the South Korean international (a heel offside, possibly)
Mane through and the Senegal international really should have found the target as he screws his strike wide.
Liverpool have won their past five games against Spurs.
The players take a knee pre game after Manchester United players were subjected to a tirade of racist abuse last night after the Old Trafford side fell to struggling Sheffield United.
It's the visitors who kick-off with Martin Atkinson the man in the middle for the Premier League clash.
Smiles all round between Klopp and Mou as both managers emerge with kick-off now just seconds away.
A mild evening in North London, 11C/51F ... Liverpool in their classic red, Spurs in white, navy and white socks.
The teams emerge from the tunnel ... Spurs first out....followed by the reigning champions.
Just over ten minutes ahead of kick-off.... the AS English predictions have just reached us...
Andy: Spurs 2-2 Liverpool
Paul: Spurs 1-0 Liverpool
Robbie: Spurs 1-1 Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp arriving earlier at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
Mourinho not expecting Alli to leave in January
Jose Mourinho does not expect Dele Alli to leave the club in the January transfer window despite the out-of-favour midfielder being linked with a loan move to Paris St Germain.
The England international has made just four Premier League appearances this season, three as a substitute, and the 24-year-old has been criticised by Mourinho on several occasions.
Reports in British media have linked Alli with a move to PSG to reunite with former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, who took charge of the Ligue 1 champions earlier this month, but Mourinho did not see a move happening before the window shuts.
"I expect (him to be here) and I'm saying that since the beginning of the window. I wasn't expecting anyone to leave or expecting anyone to come" stated the Portuguese.
Manchester City are beginning to look ominously in the sort of groove that helped them claim back-to-back titles before Liverpool knocked them off their perch last season and both Mourinho and Klopp will want to ensure that Guardiola's men don't begin to pull away from the pack.
Concern among the Spurs fraternity via social media with the news that Matt Doherty will start for the North London outfit at left back this evening.
The winner in North London tonight can oust in-form West Ham out of fourth position.
There is a worry for Jurgen Klopp with the 'Reds' having not found the net in the league in the past month, the German coach feels that too many people were "losing trust and faith" in his attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino far too quickly for his liking.
Liverpool are winless in five Premier League games and currently sit fifth in the table and seven points behind Manchester City.
The last time these two sides met they were first and second in the league but Spurs have also endured a slump to sit one point behind Liverpool with a game in hand.
"Things have changed," Klopp said in his pre match press conference. "We want to make sure the next month is more positive but we cannot change last month. I'm not only a good weather coach.
"We played some good stuff against United and we have to be more consistent. We play Tottenham and we have to go game by game. Is it difficult? Yes. That's how it is in every Premier League game."
Spurs head into tonight's game having enjoyed a 4-1 win over Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup on Monday last with Klopp's men having been dumped out in the fourth round by Manchester United in a 3-2 thriller at Old Trafford.
Spurs boss José Mourinho will be determined to get one over the Premier League champions, whom he has lost his last three league meetings against - a run which represents his longest losing streak against a top-flight opponent. When the sides recently met at Anfield in mid-December, a late Roberto Firminho header secured maximum points for the champions.
The action at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium gets underway at 21:00 CET.
