Real Madrid account hacked? Rodrygo injury report false

After confirming that Eden Hazard was going to be missing for a few weeks, more bad news appeared to arrive for Zinedine Zidane as the Atalanta game beckoned.

On Tuesday morning, Real Madrid's Twitter account and website announced that their young Brazilian forward Rodrygo had been added to the injury list.

The communication from the club did not give too much away:

This had several football journalists sharing the news, with the forward seemingly confirmed as being out of contention for a place in tonight's team for what is a crucial Champions League Last 16 second leg against Atalanta.

With Eden Hazard already out, even more pressure would have been on Karim Benzema to deliver the goals. The French striker would almost certainly then be joined by Vincius and Marco Asensio.

The news quickly spread before the club removed the article from their website (around 30 minutes after it was published) with a belief circling that it was the work of a hacker, not everyone buying that excuse when it could have been a clerical error. I mean, if you've gone to the trouble of hacking an elite football club, is that really the best 'prank' you can come up with?
