All eight clubs now know the rivals they will face in the quarter-finals of the 2020/21 Europa League. Former Arsenal player Gaël Clichy was tasked with performing this afternoon's draw in Nyon, Switzerland, which saw 2016/17 winners Manchester United pitted against tournament newcomers Granada and Ajax drawn against Roma.

The first leg of the 2020/21 Europa League quarter finals will be played on Thursday 8 April with the return leg a week later on Thursday 15 April.

Roberto Carlos: Salah won't go anywhere near Ramos!

Real Madrid were hoping to avoid the big favourites, Bayern, Manchester City and PSG, in this afternoon's Champions League quarter-final draw. They dodged the big guns but have been pitted against six-time winners Liverpool - a rival they have faced in two European finals, in 1981 and 2018.

Apart from that, it's a tie which has its own portion of intrigue or morbo as the Spanish would call it, not least for the incident involving Sergio Ramos and Mohamed Salah in the 2018 final in Kiev, which left the Egyptian with a dislocated shoulder with just 25 minutes of the game gone.

Roberto Carlos on Real Madrid TV:

"We’re up against a really good side, but we’ve got the first leg at home, are in good form and should look seal the tie at home. Real Madrid have got the best players in the world. If one of them doesn’t have a good game, there’s eight top level lads all waiting for their chance. Yes, we should be worried about Liverpool but they should be more worried [about us]."

Real Madrid forward Rodrygo reacts to Champions League draw:

"The further you go in this competition, the tougher it gets. At this stage, all sides are really strong and Liverpool are one of the strongest. They’ll be two great games, with little in them. Real Madrid versus Liverpool is always a big game with two of the biggest names in world football. I remember the 2018 final well, I was supporting Real Madrid! It was a special and memorable game."

Today’s Champions League quarter-final draw in Nyon threw up some interesting ties - Real Madrid face Liverpool while holders Bayern Munich take on PSG in a repeat of last year's final.

The first legs will be played on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 April 2021 with the ties to be decided in the return leg a week later on 13/14 April.

Full story:

Manchester City vs Borussia Dortmund

Some fascinating match ups in this one. Will City be able to handle the threat of Haaland? Can the BVB backline stifle City's attacking play? Pep will know BVB  from his time in Germany. City will fancy their chances this year, no doubt. Dortmund, however, despite being such an inexperienced side, you just can't rule them out.

FC Porto vs Chelsea

Jose Mourinho's former sides meet in the quarter-finals. Porto won't be too disheartened with this draw, while Thomas Tuchel will be now dreaming of a place in the semi-finals.

Bayern Munich vs PSG

A repeat of the 2020 final when Bayern beat Les Parisiens 1-0 thanks to Kingsley Coman's goal in Lisbon.

Are Real Madrid getting Liverpool at the right time or will the Merseysiders turn their season around just in time for this mouthwatering clash in April.

Real Madrid vs Liverpool

Liverpool and Real Madrid have met in two European Cup finals, the English club winning 1-0 in Paris in 1981 thanks to Alan Kennedy's goal.

Madrid triumphed 3-1 in Kyiv in 2018. Karim Benzema's opening goal was cancelled out by Sadio Mané, but two further strikes from substitute Gareth Bale - including a stunning overhead effort - gave Madrid the trophy for the 13th time.

Semi-final 2

Semi-final 1

Bayern Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidžić: "Paris are a very good side"

"Paris are a very good side. They are currently second in the league, but will pose a tough challenge for us."

Can't help but feel that Manchester City will be pretty pleased with their draw against Dortmund, but you just never know with Erling Haaland in attack and currently the best No 9 in Europe alongside Karim Benzema.

Altintop: "We had good games in the last round. The main surprise was Porto beating Juventus."

Altintop played 83 times for Turkey!

Champions League draw

Three bombshells...

Our front page here in Spain goes with 'A draw with three bombshells', the three being Bayern Munich, Manchester City and PSG - the clubs Real Madrid would want to avoid. Madrid of course are the only Spanish side left in the draw, having comfortably overcome Atalanta (helped by that sending off in the first leg you might say). Barcelona were trounced in the first leg by PSG and despite outplaying the French outfit in the second leg the damage sustained at the Camp Nou was too grave to overcome. Sevilla were sent flying out of the tournament by Haaland and Chelsea outclassed Atlético, who were strangely muted in both legs.

As to who you'd WANT to play, our Spanish colleagues reckon Porto are the ones you'd pick if you had the choice, although they are something of a "surprise package". As to the others, Chelsea are decent but you wouldn't be absolutely "desperate" to avoid them, Liverpool, given their sudden bizarre slump, are in reality more about their name than their football right now, while Dortmund are a "possible Cinderella story". If Haaland's fired up and on fire who knows how far they could go?

Liverpool FC

Liverpool are ready to discover who they will face in this year's quarter-final.

FC Porto

UEFA ranking: 15
European Cup best: winners x2 (1987, 2004)
Last season: did not qualify

PSG - runners-up in 2020

UEFA ranking: 7
European Cup best: runners-up (2020)
Last season: final (Lost vs Bayern)

FC Porto

Carlos Machado, Porto reporter
"Like when they triumphed 17 years ago, Porto are clear underdogs. They were the last team from outside the big five European leagues to win this trophy and they have proved this term how competitive they can be at this level.

"They are consistent defensively, have the soul and passion of an inspirational coach and can be clinical up front. Barring injuries to key players, they can compete with anyone."

Dortmund

Edin Terzić, Borussia Dortmund coach: "It’s not often that Dortmund are in the best eight in Europe"

"It feels very cool to be in the quarter-finals. We’re proud of the boys. It’s not often that Dortmund are in the best eight in Europe and we’re very proud to be there."

Champions League quarter-final & semi-final draws

We'll be going live to UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland in just under 30 minutes to bring you the draws for this year's Champions League last 8 and last 4.

Real Madrid

Last season: round of 16 (Lost vs Manchester City)

Tuchel

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel: No one wants to play us in Champions League quarters

Thomas Tuchel believes no one wants to face Chelsea in the Champions League quarter-finals after the in-form Blues eliminated Atlético Madrid.

Chelsea outclassed LaLiga leaders Atlético 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday to progress to the last eight 3-0 on aggregate.

Hakim Ziyech and Emerson scored as Chelsea extended their unbeaten streak to 14 matches in all competitions, and 13 since Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard on January 26 – the longest undefeated start to a tenure by any Chelsea manager in history.

Chelsea are yet to concede a goal in six home games under Tuchel in all competitions, with the Blues keeping 11 clean sheets in 13 games under the German, more than any other Premier League club since his first game in charge.

Looking ahead to Friday's draw amid Chelsea's red-hot form, Tuchel said: "The guys play with a special bond and results like this give you a certain edge and glue to achieve special things.

"You can only do it with a special atmosphere. I'm pretty sure nobody wants to play against us in the last eight. It will be a big step but there's no need for us to be afraid."

Erling Haaland

Nobody will want to face the Norwegian goalscoring machine in the quarter-finals. Dortmund defeated Sevilla in the last 16 thanks to the 20-year-old's fantastic form.

Champions League final 8

Chelsea's progression takes the number of Premier League sides in the competition to three after Liverpool and Manchester City also advanced at the expense of German opposition with Jurgen Klopp's men overcoming RB Leipzig with the current Premier League leaders comprehensively dominating Borussia Monchengladbach to advance.

European Champions Bayern Munich

Holders Bayern Munich cruised through to the Champions League quarter-finals for the ninth time in the last 10 seasons after beating Lazio 2-1 at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday to secure a 6-2 aggregate victory.

The 'Road to Istanbul'

We now have just eight sides who remain on the 'Road to Istanbul' with FC Porto delivering the biggest shock in the round of 16 fixtures as they dumped Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo out of the competition on away goals.

Three English sides remain in the competition with no Serie A representative and just Real Madrid flying the flag for LaLiga, which will no doubt prompt, the classic: "Which is the best league in Europe" debate.
