One of the objectives of Generation Amazing, a solidarity platform which is one of the social responsibility programs established by the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, is to positively impact the lives of one million people around world before the start of the FIFA Qatar 2022 World Cup. This goal was a key part of the presentation in Qatari’s bid to host the World Cup in 2022.

Qatar is well on its way to achieving this goal, as Hassan Al Thawadi, general secretary for the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, confirmed that Generation Amazing has reached 725,000 fans around the world, who have benefitted from the initiatives of the football development program.

Al Thawadi stressed the effective role of sport in making positive change around the world, referring to the fact that sport has become the global language, transcending cultures and borders, and has a unique power to unify and inspire people and communities around the world.

“On the occasion of the United Nations International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, we celebrate the success achieved by Generation Amazing, our program for community and humanitarian development, based on the values that unify individuals and inspire them to make positive change in their communities,” he said.

“The program has been able to reach more than 725,000 people around the world through football-based initiatives for development, as well as supporting the construction of community football stadiums.”

For her part, Naser Al Khory, director of the Generation Amazing program, said: “Sport has the power to unify people and erase barriers and differences between them, creating a united and integrated environment.”

At a virtual dialogue on the sidelines of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum 2021, Al Khory spoke about the success achieved by the program by leveraging the popularity of football to improve the lives of thousands of young people around the world, stressing that harnessing the power of sport and its wide popularity is the best way to eradicate violence and enhance the development of communities.

She also underlined that young people are the top priority in Generation Amazing’s strategies, stating: “We interact with young people through the youth ambassadors program in our community clubs, giving them the opportunity to participate in skills development programs and training courses. Generation Amazing aims to take advantage of all available resources and creative ideas that contribute to inspiring and empowering young people, as well as helping them to develop communication skills that make them more optimistic and give them a desire to achieve positive changes in their lives.”
