Manchester City vs Chelsea. It’s the fixture that’s been the talk of the week, but not because of THIS game, but rather the one to be played in Istanbul on 29 May - the Champions League final.
But first the sides meet this weekend in the Premier League, where if Manchester City win they’ll be crowned champions. And for City coach Guardiola there’s only one thing on their minds: “There is not one thought about the final of the Champions League because we don’t have the Premier League in our hands”.
Except they do, really. City sit a full 13 points ahead of Man Utd in second place, and though their city rivals do have a game in hand if Guardiola’s side were to blow if from here… it would be the biggest of all meltdowns ever.
Chelsea meanwhile are in fourth and fighting to keep it that way to guarantee Champions League football next season, and not have to depend on beating City in the final on May 29. Tuchel for his part doesn’t think today’s game at the Etihad will change anything for the final: “"I think the final in Istanbul will be pretty unique no matter the score… no matter if we win, they win or if we draw," he said.
Chelsea come into this game having just beaten Man Utd in the FA Cup semi-final last month, 1-0, which ended City’s dreams of an unprecedented quadruple.
