One year on, the Mexico national team will return to Los Angeles to face Nigeria in a friendly game as part of their preparation prior to the start of the Gold Cup tournament. The game against Nigeria will be on 3 July at the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (LA Coliseum).

Nigeria have qualified for six of the last seven FIFA World Cup finals and have faced Mexico five times throughout history. The ‘Super Eagles’ have drawn four games and lost once; the last time they faced each other was in Atlanta, Georgia in 2014 playing out a 0-0 draw.

Mexico will have four preparation matches

The game against Nigeria will be the fourth friendly for Mexico as part of the 2021 MexTour this summer. They will be playing in Dallas, Atlanta and Nashville before the CONCACAF Gold Cup starts on 10 July. For the game in Los Angeles, California fans will be allowed in the stadium following the health protocols of the health department.

The Mexican Football Federation will play Iceland on 29 May at the AT&T stadium in Arlington, Texas. Then they will travel to Atlanta, Georgia to face Honduras, a direct rival in the Gold Cup, at the Mercedes-Benz stadium on 12 June. Their third rival will be against Panama on 30 June at the Nissan stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.
