Liga MX confirms schedule for 2021 Guardianes tournament final

There are only two teams left in the 2021 Guardianes tournament, and they will compete for the league title in a two-legged final this week. Cruz Azul will face Santos Laguna in the trophy decider. The first leg will be played on 21 May at the TSM Corona stadium and the second leg will be played on 30 May at the Azteca stadium.

Fans will be able to attend the final

For the final games of the 2021 Guardianes tournament fans will be able to attend the games at a limited capacity in both venues. The stadium of Santos Laguna, TSM Corona, will be open at 50 percent capacity and people have to wear masks and respect the social distance.

However, it has not been confirmed how many fans can attend the final game at the Azteca stadium on Sunday. The historic venue reopened during the 2021 Guardianes tournament playoffs, but at 25 percent capacity and fans have to wear masks and ticket sales will be exclusively online (maximum four per fan).

This will be a rematch of the 2008 Clausura tournament final. In that series Santos Laguna defeated Cruz Azul 3-2 on aggregate to lift the league title. Also this will be Cruz Azul’s seventh time playing a final game since 1997 and they are seeking to end a 24-year drought without winning the championship.
