Keylor Navas graduated with honors in his second year with Paris Saint-Germain and was voted the best goalkeeper of the 2020/21 Ligue 1 season. The 34-year-old failed to win the league title this season, however, and due to an injury will miss the CONCACAF Nations League final with Costa Rica, but he is hopeful he can return on time for the Gold Cup in July.

Differences between the Spanish and French league

Navas suffered some injuries during the season, making only 29 league appearances, conceding 18 goals and keeping a clean sheet 16 times. He arrived at PSG in 2019 after spending nine years in LaLiga with Albacete (2010-2011), Levante (2011-2014) and Real Madrid (2014-2019).

After completing his second year with PSG he talked to RCN from Colombia, about the difference between both leagues. “I am very happy and blessed with God, because I love what I do. For me it is a privilege to be playing for PSG and it has been a wonderful experience, because of the affection I have received from everyone. The bosses and coaches have praised my job and that as a footballer that is something that keeps you motivated,” said Navas.

“I think that Ligue 1 is more physical than the Spanish league. The teams here don’t focus on the possession of the ball as much as in LaLiga and the games are more intense. The football they practice here is faster and now I understand it better and I feel happy to be here,” he added.
