Inter Miami's disappointing start to second season in MLS

The team co-owned by David Beckham made some important European signings prior to the start of the 2021 MLS season, but have only managed to win two games so far.

Estados UnidosUpdate:
Inter Miami's disappointing start to second season in MLS

The co-owner of Inter Miami CF, David Beckham, was disappointed with the team's performance during their debut season in Major League Soccer. So the bosses decided to part ways with manager Diego Alonso and signed Phil Neville for the upcoming 2021 MLS regular season.

Disappointing start for Neville and co.

The expectations were higher for Inter Miami going into their sophomore year in the league. Newly appointed manager, Phil Neville, got the players he requested for the 2021 campaign, but the team is not yet performing as hoped.

Inter Miami CF has played eight regular season games and they have a record of two wins, two draws and four losses for a total of eight points. They currently sit in 11th place in the Eastern Conference with their designated players, Blaise Matuidi, Gonzalo Higuaín and Rodolfo Pizarro, not having the impact that everyone at the franchise expected from the get-go.

Rodolfo Pizarro under the loop

Out of the three aforementioned designated players, Pizarro has been the biggest disappointment so far as he enters his second year with Inter Miami. The Mexican international has won the league title with his previous three teams in the Liga MX, but with the MLS side he has only scored five goals and provided three assists in 16 appearances.

With the summer transfer window opening up, several reports indicate that David Beckham wants to bring Willian from Arsenal to Major League Soccer. In order for that to happen they will have to get rid of one of their designated players and Pizarro would likely be the one to be offered to other teams.

According to our sources at AS, Beckham is also trying to sign Marcelo from Real Madrid, but the veteran player would not arrive until the 2022 season. Also with stadiums starting to open up to full capacity, Neville is going to feel more direct pressure from the Miami fans who will demand better results from this high-profile side.
