Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has spoken of new signing Nuno Tavares' "promise" and "energy", telling the Premier League club's official website: "He is a young player with great promise who has developed very well with Benfica in recent seasons and has also shown his quality by being part of Portugal Under-21s. Nuno’s arrival will give the squad extra strength and options in defence, particularly with this energy on the left side of the pitch."

Arsenal have announced the signing of Nuno Tavares from Benfica. The Portugal Under-21 defender, who moves to the Emirates Stadium for a reported 8m-euro initial fee, has signed a "long-term" contract, the Gunners say.

Barcelona, Atlético reportedly considering Griezmann-Ñíguez swap

Catalan sports daily Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona and Atlético Madrid are considering a swap deal involving forward Antoine Griezmann and midfielder Saúl Ñíguez. The journalist Javier G. Gómara says such a move remains “at an early stage” but “would benefit both parties”.

Griezmann, 30, spent five years at Atlético before joining Barça in 2019 in a 120m-euro move. Ñíguez, 26, who is under contract at Atleti until 2026, is being strongly tipped for a summer departure from Los Rojiblancos, for whom he has made over 300 appearances since graduating from the club’s youth set-up.
