Giannis Antetokounmpo: I never thought I'd be where I am at 26

After leading the Milwaukee Bucks to their first NBA championship since 1971, Giannis Antetokounmpo told reporters he’s happy just to have appeared in an NBA Finals, let alone won one.

Antetokounmpo chosen as NBA Finals MVP

Antetokounmpo was named 2021 NBA Finals MVP after averaging 32.5 points, 13.2 rebounds and five assists in the Bucks’ 4-2 series win over the Phoenix Suns, registering 50 points and 14 rebounds on Tuesday as Milwaukee sealed the NBA title with a 105-98 victory at Fiserv Forum.

"Man, we've come a long way"

"I started playing basketball just to help my family, try to get them out of the struggle, the challenges we were facing when we were kids," the Greek star said. "But I never thought I’m going to be 26 years old, with my team playing in the NBA Finals.

"Just playing! I was happy not even winning, just being a part of this journey. But I never thought ever that I’d be 26 and sitting in this chair with this right here and this right here [points to the NBA trophy and the NBA Finals MVP trophy]… Man, we’ve come a long way."
