Texans vs Packers: NFL preseason game preview and players to watch

The Greenbay Packers will host the Houston Texans in their first preseason game of 2021 Saturday night at Lambeau Field. Here are 5 players to watch.

Update:
Texans vs Packers: NFL preseason game preview and players to watch

Obviously, we will have to wait a few more weeks to see Aaron Rodgers and several other great veterans play in front of a crowd. We will, however get to see how some of the rookies perform and first looks at running games, special teams strategies, and potential team-makers.

Five players to watch in the Texans/Packers matchup

Jordan Love

Packers first-round draft pick in 2020, quarterback Jordan Love will make his debut Saturday night. He’ll no doubt be rusty, having not played in over a year and a half. These preseason games will mostly be a learning experience for Love, who will likely get a lot of playing time.

Davis Mills

The Texans are still in a quarterback crisis. They took three QBs to replace Deshaun Watson: Tyrod Taylor, Davis Mills, and Jeff Driskel. Tyrod Taylor is the most likely WB to take Watson’s place as the lead, but Driskel and Mills will battle it out for the spot behind him. Mills, chosen in the 2021 draft, should have lots of opportunities to prove he was worth the grab this in the preseason.

AJ Dillon

Running back AJ Dillon was acquired from the Greenbay Packers in 2020. He was thought to be a possible replacement for Aaron Jones, but Jones ended up staying, which saw Dillon as the backup. They are very different RBs. Dillon is strong and powerful and can break through, whereas Jones is agile and can weave between players to get the yardage. Saturday could be Dillon’s chance to prove he’s a strong and reliable backup.

Brevin Jordan

The Texans drafted Tight End Brevin Jordan this year because they’re in need of a solid player at the position. He is still green, but was a top prospect. We should see him play in the preseason and get used to playing with Houston’s offense. He’ll have the opportunity to develop and improve.

Jon Runyan

Jon Runyan and Ben Braden have been competing for the position of Right Guard with the Packers. Last season, Runyan played in all 16 games and was the only rookie to play in every game. This game will be a chance for Runyan and Braden to play and see who might win the position.
