Club Brugge confirm the signing of Tajon Buchanan
The New England Revolution reached an agreement to transfer the 22-year-old winger to the famous Belgian side at the end of the 2021 MLS season.
Tajon Buchanan is the latest American player that made the switch from Major League Soccer to Europe at a young age. On Tuesday it was confirmed that the 22-year-old would join Club Brugge KV after the end of the 2021 MLS season and New England Revolution will retain a percentage of his future sell-on rights.
Club-record transfer for the Revs
"Tajon has grown tremendously during his time in New England and has earned this opportunity to prove himself at the highest levels in Europe with this Champions League club,” Revs head coach Bruce Arena said. “We are pleased to facilitate this move for Tajon as he takes the next step in his professional journey. We look forward to his continued contributions with the Revolution as we compete for a championship this season."
"I am excited to take this next step in my career and am grateful for the New England Revolution for giving me the opportunity to grow as a player and showcase my abilities. I will continue to give my all to the Revolution this season and hope to end my time in MLS by lifting a trophy with my teammates,” added Buchanan.
According to several reports, the Revolution will receive close to $7 million once the transfer is completed and a 10 percent sell-on clause. It is expected that Buchanan will travel to Belgium because he has to complete the medical examination and sign his new deal with Club Brugge.
