The saga of where Cristiano Ronaldo will play his football for the 2021/22 season has come to a swift end after Manchester United confirmed the CR7 return after neighbours City were linked with the striker's services on Thursday.

As of Thursday, it appeared that the Portuguese striker was destined for Manchester City after the Sky Blues and the Juventus player's agent Jorge Mendes had reached an agreement. As Friday wore on, the Old Trafford side emerged as a rival for the player's signature and it appears communication between Cristiano and many of the current United squad including Bruno Fernandes has been key in tilting the Madeira born player towards the red half of the city. A fee of 25 million euro is being discussed as part of a two-year deal.

United confirm signature

In a brief statement, United stated: "Manchester United is delighted to confirm that the club has reached agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo, subject to agreement of personal terms, visa and medical.

Cristiano, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, has so far won over 30 major trophies during his career, including five UEFA Champions League titles, four FIFA Club World Cups, seven league titles in England, Spain and Italy, and the European Championship for his native Portugal.

In his first spell for Manchester United, he scored 118 goals in 292 games.

Everyone at the club looks forward to welcoming Cristiano back to Manchester".

Juve exit confirmed

Earlier on Friday, Juventus manager Max Allegri addressed the media ahead of the game against Empoli and confirmed that Ronaldo was leaving the club.

"Yesterday, Cristiano told me that he no longer has any intention to play for Juventus. For this reason he will not be called up for tomorrow's game," Allegri said.
