Morgan and the Jets end preseason undefeated after Hail Mary

It’s a play we have all ran at sometime in our lives. Five seconds on the clock, no timeouts, last play of the game, send everyone down field and throw up a prayer. The Hail Mary is so often attempted in back yards, play grounds and NFL stadiums alike, but we seldomly see it end in success.

Dream ending to preseason for Morgan and Yeboah

The New York Jets ended their preseason slate with a Hail Mary to tie the Philadelphia Eagles as the clock hit triple zeros to keep the home team undefeated going into Week 1 of the regular season (2-0-1).

The Jets were on the Philadelphia 49 yard line, down 31-23 in the final seconds when James Morgan, who is fighting for a spot on the Jets roster, heaved a Hail Mary into the end zone hoping one of his receivers would find his way under the prayer of a pass.

Kenny Yeboah was surrounded by a bushel of green and white jersey, but the 6’3” former Ole Miss Running Rebel came out of the pack with a clean catch to complete the Hail Mary and send Met Life Stadium into a frenzy.

The job wasn’t done yet, the Jets still trailed by two after the touchdown. Josh Adams punched in the two point conversion to secure the tie, as preseason games no longer go to overtime.

In a shortened preseason where every snap counts Morgan and Yeboah might have just secured themselves a spot on New York’s 53 man regular season roster. While one play is generally not enough to do it, they will surely have made a good last impression on Jets coach Robert Saleh. The same can’t be said for those playing coverage in the Eagles secondary.
