Manchester United breaks record of most undefeated away games
After beating the Wanderers on Sunday, Manchester United made history with the most undefeated away games played, an incredible 28 games in a row.
The Reds defeated the Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux 1-0 with a Mason Greenwood goal in the 81st minute, marking the team’s 28th away game won in a row. That win put them above Arsenal’s 27-game winning streak on the away field that they held under Arsene Wenger in 2003/04. The defeat against the Wanderers also happened to mark Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s 100th Premier League game as United’s boss.
Stats of the away games won by United
18 of those 28 games have been won since February 2020. 10 of them were draws, the most recent being against Southampton (1-1) last Sunday. They’ve scored 51 goals in those 28 games. The last time United lost an away game was against Liverpool (2-0) on January 19, 2020, 589 days ago. Bruno Fernandes has scored the most goals in the unbeaten run, more than twice as many as anyone else. He scored a total of 15, followed by Marcus Rashford with 7, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood with 6, and Paul Pogba with 4.
But what about their home games?
As impressive as their away game defeats have been, their home games have been almost as unimpressive, with 4 draws and 6 losses at home in 19 games last season. They’ll have to improve on that front if they want to be real contenders for a championship.
“We know we had a difficult start to the season with the lack of preseason,” Ole Gunnar said back in May. “We lost three out of the first six games. Loads of them were home games, which put pressure on the team.”
