Unfortunately for Cristiano Ronaldo, he is making headlines for the wrong reasons after breaking another record for most international goals scored on Wednesday. Portugal won the game against Ireland 2-1 with Ronaldo scoring a game-winning brace, but he received a one-game suspension due to his shirtless celebration.

Ronaldo saves Portugal after trailing behind Ireland

Portugal had much to celebrate after Ronaldo scored two late strikes to beat Ireland after trailing behind. Irish defender John Egan scored in the 45th minute to put Ireland in the lead. It was Ronaldo who tied the game at the end of regulation and it was he again who scored the last goal six minutes into stoppage time to secure the victory for Portugal.

Ronaldo sets new goalscoring record

Ronaldo was also celebrating breaking a record of most international goals ever scored. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner surpassed Daei's 109-goal record by scoring his 110th and 111th goal for Portugal, becoming the new record goalscorer in men's international soccer.

Celebration results in yellow card

However, he took it too far when he removed his shirt in excitement. He received a yellow card for the action, and now Portugal will be without its star for the next World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan on September 7th. "For sure he will not go to Azerbaijan," said Portugal head coach Fernando Santos. "He will not play, it doesn't make sense to travel."

The 36-year-old Portuguese star is expected to play in Saturday's friendly against Qatar.
