A last-gasp field goal at the second attempt gave the Washington Football Team a dramatic first win of the season in their Week 2 NFL clash with the New York Giants on Thursday night.
Hopkins seals late win after Lawrence penalised
After missing with his initial attempt from 48 yards, Dustin Hopkins was given a second bite of the cherry five yards further forward when Giants defender Dexter Lawrence was penalised for jumping offside, and sent his kick through the posts to give Washington a 30-29 victory at FedEx Field.
The Football Team had begun their NFL campaign with a 20-16 defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, while NFC East rivals the Giants are now 0-2, having lost 27-13 to the Denver Broncos in their season opener last weekend.

Before the frantic finale in Landover, the two quarterbacks had both impressed in an all-round lively match, with the Giants’ Daniel Jones throwing for 249 yards and a touchdown, and Washington’s Taylor Heinicke throwing for 336 yards and two touchdowns on only his third ever NFL start.
