Alan Soñora keen to play for the USMNT

Alan Soñora was born in the United States on 3 August 1998, but he started his youth career playing for Boca Juniors in 2012. The attacking midfielder joined Independiente in 2018 and one year later he made his debut with the senior team. The 23-year-old has 16 appearances in the Argentine Primera División and he is already thinking about his international career.

Keen to make his debut with the USMNT

The New Jersey born is eligible for Argentina and the United States at international level, but he appears to have his mind set on playing for the USMNT. Soñora has already played for the United States youth team and he is waiting for a call to make his debut with the senior team.

During a recent interview, the playmaker talked about playing in the pressure of playing in the Argentine Primera División and his desire to make his debut with the USMNT. “Independiente is one of the biggest clubs in Argentina. The expectation each weekend is to win, so making the debut with the senior team was a dream come true.

It would also be a dream to play in the United States men’s national team. It would be something special to be honest. It is something that I really want and hopefully I get the opportunity,” he added.

There is a possibility that the coach Gregg Berhalter gives him a shot with the USMNT, because of the players that won’t be available for the FIFA international break of October. This is because Panama is amongst the so-called ‘Red List’ countries and the Premier League will not let the American players travel. Also Weston McKennie might not receive a call for breaking the Covid-19 protocols earlier this month.
